Beautiful interior of a school in Morike, southern Germany by Klumpp + Klumpp architects as seen on Dezeen. A simple palette of materials is used sumptuously to create a welcoming finish, with the warm yellowing tones of the oak windows and handrails contrasting with the cool, light hue of concrete which is left exposed in forming the ceiling finish and stair structure.
Guðjón Samúelsson’s church design for The Hallgrímskirkja is an interesting observation of expressionist Architecture that seems to have been stretched taut to emphasise it’s soaring central nave, and symmetrical front façade which is simultaneously both sail like, and supposed to be reflective of the basalt lava flows found in Iceland’s many volcanoes.
These unbelievably ghost-like and intricate images are created by Cologne artist Simon Schubert from folding white paper.
Like a Western riff on origami, the final pieces are simple and hauntingly beautiful. Can be seen on Dezeen as well.
This is a silently mesmerising conversion of a slaughterhouse into a cinema in Madrid by Churtichaga+Quadra-Salcedo Architects. I love the subtle interventions externally that contract with the atmospheric use of materials and light internally.
Following on from my initial exploration of Bowmore, and the subsequent post, I have since completed the drawings and presented the study to an interesting cast of onlookers, participants and critiques at a recent aefoundation gathering. I look forward to continuing work with the rest of the group over the coming months.
Not sure about the interior of this house, House S by Suga Atelier as seen on Dezeen, or even whether I would like living here, but I do really appreciate the care put into the use of materials, and the way that the concrete is lovingly poured to form a sculptural and strong form.
